Summer Essentials

Now that summer is in full swing I thought I would put together a post all about the things that have gotten me through the heat and have styled out my summer wardrobe. I have chosen some thing’s that I have packed to take on my summer holiday and some items that I just love using everyday during summer. So here are my Summer Essentials...

I'll start with a few beauty and skincare and items that I love to use in the summer for hot days, festivals and holiday travelling.

Malibu Lip Care Balms

When spending lots of time in the sun it's easy to dry out your skin and this includes your lips. Lack of moisture can dry out your lips and the skin can often crack. So I always try to use a high SPF lip balm during summer to protect my lips from the sun. One of the lip balms that I have loved using over summer is the Malibu Lip Care Balm collection. In the pack you get 3 different flavours of summer themed lip balms and it's only £1.99 for the collection. There are 3 different packs to collect and in my pack I got the Vanilla, Watermelon and Tropical flavours. They're super tasty and moisturising, I found mine in the beauty section of T K Maxx but I'm sure they can be purchased from the Malibu website.

Jeffree Star Cosmetics Liquid Lipstick - Calabasas

So this summer Jeffree Star Cosmetics released it's summer chrome collection and I absolutely fell in love with it. Jeffree release a brand new set of liquid lipsticks, lip scrubs, lip ammunition's and highlighters as part of the new summer range. From the summer collection of 8 new liquid lipsticks I bought the shade, Calabasas. It is such a beautiful cherry red shade and it is a perfect colour for summer! it literally stands out with any look and it has the same amazing formula as his other liquid lipsticks. They're so long lasting and super pigmented with a long lasting full colour. It is also worth mentioning that the packaging for the summer chrome collection is a pink toned chrome finish which I think looks stunning.

Tanning Oil

It is important to take such good care of your skin whilst spending long periods of time out in the sun. So many problems can occur from staying in the sun to long unprotected, so make sure you apply plenty of high factor sun cream when on holiday or sun bathing at home. Once your skin begins to adapt after a few days in the sun, you can start lowering your factor of sun cream e.g. from a 30 SPF to a 20 SPF and so on then in the last few days of your holiday you can use tanning oil. Tanning Oil is brilliant for naturally enhancing your tan and keeping your skin moisturized after using sun cream. Lots of brands have ranges of different tanning oils. One of my favourites to use is the Hawaiian Tropic Dark Tanning Oil Pump Spray as it smells gorgeous and works quickly at bringing out a natural tan. Hawaiian Tropic do a great range of tanning oils and sun cream so definitely check them out.

Here are a couple of clothing and footwear item that are my 'go to's' for summer. I don't really write that much about clothing on my blog as it isn't something I take to much interest in, following fashion I mean. I guess you could say I prefer 'fast fashion' as I love looking at clothes in retail shops that are on trend for my generation. So these are a few items that I love to wear in summer.

Floral Pattern Stitch On's

I do really love to wear floral patterns, especially in summer. But recently I've really enjoyed picking out items of clothing that include floral pattern stitch on's. I have also noticed that so many more shops and retailers are offering stitch on's on and off clothing which means you can pretty much add them to anything. A lovely clothing brand from Instagram sent me a few pieces from their brand new summer collection which I have featured below. I love these 3 tops so much they were perfect to wear on my holiday and I was so impressed with the quality.

Sliders

Not everyone will know what sliders are, but the easiest way to describe them is a larger version of a flip flop with thick over the foot straps. They became a fashion trend last year and now most shops do sell sliders. I’m not exactly sure why slides became so popular but I do know that the FENTY x PUMA were so popular and a lot of celebrities started wearing them. I have since seen social media influencer's like Sarah Ashcroft and the Kardashian’s wearing them. I absolutely love sliders, their not everyone's cup of tea but I think they're so comfy and convenient to wear. I have some light pink fluffy top sliders which cost £6 and some light pink plain rubber sliders which cost £4 both from Primark. I love these for summer and they're so useful for taking on holiday as the rubber versions are waterproof so they won't get wet from any splashes around the pool.

And finally...here are a few random things that I thought I'd throw into the mix.

Watermelon Swim Ring

Obviously this isn't an essential but it’s something fun and looks really stylish in photos. Thanks to many celebrities and Instagram models, pool floats have become a trend for summer vacations. When they first hit the scene they were really expensive at the average price of £50 which is a ridiculous amount of money for a pool float. However many companies have jumped on the trend and released a much cheaper version and in different designs. I got my watermelon ring from Primark which was £5 and there is also a doughnut version for the same price and a bigger unicorn float for £10. Aldi also sell a large pink flamingo flat for £6 which is a bargain.

Glitter!

Now I know that using glitter for a beauty statement isn't exactly a new craze but it is still a popular trend to this day and I absolutely love it. There are so many different styles and colours of face and body glitters in many different shops and online. I personally don't see the point in spending a lot of money on glitter as once you've applied it, it can't be used again. It isn't advised to keep glitter on longer than needed as it can damage skin and some types of glitter has been known to stain skin if left on too long. So in my opinion I would use cheaper glitter for better value. There are some great packs that you can buy from Primark for £3 that include a tube of glue as well as 3 glitter pots in a handy little pouch and there is plenty of different colours available.

I hope you have enjoyed my list of Summer Essentials. Of course I am not selling these things as gospel; I just like to share some of my own personal choices. This post is a little different from my usual content but I really enjoyed writing it so if you would like more posts like this in the future then leave a comment and let me know what you think.
